Plain rubber lagging is often applied in order to extend the life of the shell by providing a replaceable wearing surface or to improve the friction. Plain lagging rubber sheet are used to eliminate belt spillage, increase service life, improve water shedding. Drive pulleys that operate in wet or damp conditions are commonly grooved and are available in a smooth, herringbone or diamond design.
